My new TV is bomb. The picture is much better than I expected. HD channels are crystal clear when viewed from about 9 feet, which is the perfect distance for watching a 42 inch. If you get to 2 feet or less then the picture is slightly less sharp than a Sony 1080p. The surround sound feature is not as effective as my Sony. Thats how they get you I guess. They want you to get the home theater also. However, the TV has a feature for equalizing sound across all channels which is great if you're surfing, the best part is the contrast. The blacks are so black I had to reduce the black level to make people look real and not animated. The Dynamic contrast ratio a measure of contrast is the highest I have seen yet, 100000:1. If you were going to get a home theater anyway then I would definitely recommend a Panasonic 720p.
